15 seasons. 100 shows. A thousand memories and impressions. The television show One on One with Jane Mitchell has opened the hearts and eyes of sports fans and non-sports fans alike, and even surprised some of the athletes. Check out the video page to see excerpts from some of the 100 shows and read here what several of her guests and colleagues say about her signature style.
“I had just won the 2004 World Series with the Boston Red Sox and then a month later I signed a contract with the San Diego Padres. So, when I was asked to do the One on One with Jane Mitchell, I was thrilled. Through her show, I have been able to really get to know so many of the athletes I have admired. My family is typically a private one, but we knew Jane would be sincere in telling our story.”
- Dave Roberts, 2004 World Series Champion“During the interview I realized that this special was more about who I am as a person. I really liked how the fans got the opportunity to learn about my life off the field. People still come up to me today and tell me how much they enjoyed the show.”
- David Eckstein, 2006 World Series MVP“Jane did a great job of shining a light on things I have not thought about for years. She did a lot of research and did a wonderful job of showing my path through life to the big leagues… It’s always nice to hear people say nice things and hear how incredible our story is, but having our experiences documented for all time is something I will always appreciate.”
- Geoff Blum, 2005 World Series Champion“We have used your One on One stories for the Junior Seau Foundation as we honored those you have interviewed. They are informative and fun.”
- Junior Seau, 12-Time Pro Bowl Linebacker“Sometimes people drill you instead of asking questions and letting you share your answers. It’s not to say she didn’t dig and do her job as a journalist, but Jane allowed me to tell my story in a way that I felt comfortable.”
- Luis Castillo, San Diego Chargers“Over the years, Jane Mitchell’s work with contemporary and historical sports figures has been consistently thoughtful and well crafted. She blends a fan’s passion with a reporter’s curiosity and eye for detail.”
- Bob Costas, National Sports Broadcaster“It might be the best piece on Ted Williams I’ve ever seen. I think you did an excellent job.”
- Bill Nowlin, Boston Baseball Historian
