As Tony Gwynn once told me about being elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, until that phone rings, you don’t know, you just don’t know. It rang for Tony Gwynn in 2007. Will it ring today for Trevor Hoffman? Will his third year on the ballot prove to be what many have anticipated much like that 9th inning Hell’s Bells music? But instead of Trevor saving the game, will he be honored for the 601 times he did and all he means to the game, the Padres, and the San Diego community? We shall all know in a few hours. In the meantime, here is the 2015 edition of One on One with Jane Mitchell featuring the Legends in which I talk with Trevor about being on the ballot for the first time, reflecting on his remarkable career and contributions to the game, his city and his family.
If I could vote, he has my vote. We are all proud of him.
